We are very proud to have a busy and enthusiastic School Council at Malden Parochial School. The team consists of two representatives from each year class from Year 2 to Year 6 and is chaired by Mrs McConville. As councillors, we listen carefully to the concerns, needs and suggestions of our peers and bring feedback to the meetings, which take place approximately every three weeks.
Our School Council is always looking out for opportunities to support the school community in making Malden Parochial a safe and happy place, encouraging good relationships and working alongside peer mediators, being eco-friendly, promoting anti-bullying and doing all they can to make the school as safe as possible for everyone.
The School Council is very active in supporting and organising fundraising events, including running a stall each year at the Christmas Fair. They have raised awareness and money selling ‘Beat the Bully’ wrist bands during Anti-Bullying Week. We spent the money on a Japanese Willow Tree, which stands proud beside the main entrance to the school, reminding pupils of the commitment our school had to preventing bullying.
In 2016-17 the School Council chose FOMO (Friends of Mulanje Orphans) as its charity to support. Miss Jaggers (previous Deputy Head) had links with the charity, which feeds, educates and cares for orphans in and around Mulanje in Malawi. Having spent time out in Malawi 13 years ago, Miss Jaggers is making a return visit and is hoping to build links between pupils there and pupils at Malden Parochial.
